4 Easy Hacks That Will Help You Love Your Shower Again

4 Easy Hacks That Will Help You Love Your Shower Again

Have you fallen out of love with your shower? When you look at it are you overwhelmed by its lackluster finishes and grimy crevices? Well, we are here to tell you that you are not alone! Once a pristine refuge, our showers can quickly succumb to their moist atmosphere and leave us feeling anything but clean. While your first choice may be to rip it all out and start from scratch, that road will cost you a pretty penny. Not to mention a headache or two from the renovation process. So, in lieu of a total redo, these easy hacks will help transform your shower from drab to fab and rekindle the love you had for your bathroom once again!

Start at the bottom: Nothing ruins the ambience of a shower more than standing in stagnant water from a semi-clogged drain. While your initial inclination will be to grab some Draino, this actually isn’t the best solution, especially if hair is causing the backup. A drain snake is a more effective (and safer) solution and should have your drain back to its old self in no time. Simply stick the drain snake down the drain, twirl it around a few times, and prepare yourself for all the glorious grossness. If you’re particularly squeamish, this part can be tough to get through, but we promise it’ll be well worth it in the end.

Get Rid of the Grime: Next, work your way up to the caulking around the tub and any grout lines you may have. After years of use, these tiny lines can get a bit grimy, which can have a massive impact on the look and feel of your shower. Get started by scraping off the old caulking with a plastic putty knife (pro tip: you should never use a metal knife as it can damage the finish of your bathtub). Then, grab some silicone caulk (in white or clear) and fill in the gaps. If you are lucky enough to have a shower with caulking and grout, then you’ll want to perform a similar process on your grout. Grab a grouting pen and get to work filling in those lines. It’ll take some time but in the end your shower will look as good as new — and feel a whole lot cleaner too!

Buff Out Hard Water Stains: We hate to admit it, but sometimes squeegeeing isn’t enough to combat hard water stains, especially when some members of your household frequently “forget” to do it. Before you go and grab your glass cleaner or homemade vinegar solution, stay in your bathroom and reach for your shaving cream instead. It sounds odd but shaving cream has become the newest cleaning hack for hard water stains. Not only does it buff out existing stains, but it also prevents new ones from creeping back into your life and prevents fogging! Who knew? Simply spray it on the glass in your shower, let it sit for 15-minutes, wipe it off and enjoy your streak and fog-free glass!

Optimize Your Water Pressure: If you thought you were stuck with your existing water pressure, think again! You can pump up the volume with one easy trick. Most showerheads come with a built-in flow restrictor to conserve water. While we are all about saving the environment, sometimes these flow restrictors prevent your showerhead from thoroughly washing out your hair products — which is a definite downside. Luckily, they are pretty easy to remove. Simply unscrew your shower head from the wall (or hose), find the flow restrictor (usually a small and circular device), and use a screwdriver to pop it out. Then, put everything back together and enjoy your improved water pressure!

It’s worth noting that removing this device will affect your water bill. So, if you’re looking to improve your water pressure without the added cost, soaking your shower head in vinegar will remove build-up and should slightly improve your water flow too.

Like any relationship, the one between you and your bathroom may sometimes require a bit of TLC. Luckily, these easy hacks will have your shower shining like new, so you can get back to enjoying your time together, rather than dreading it.
